Thewantad.com is run by WANT AD Publications, the company that has been locally owned and operated and publishing The WANT ADvertiser for over 50 years. The reason the WANT AD has been so successful for so many years is its dedication to customer service.
At The WANT AD we have more employees in our call center alone than most classified ad sites have altogether. If you want to place an ad over the phone, just call 1-800-292-6823, they can even give you advice on your ads description. That alone is a feature almost no other classified ad site can match, just try finding a phone number on other sites!
What makes our website different? Unlike other sites that rely on users to flag and remove inappropriate or fraudulent ads, we proofread all ads before we post them on the website. This way we know exactly what ads are going to be posted. When you browse thewantad.com you know that all the ads are genuine.
If you aren't familiar with what kinds of ads can be found on other sites, read this article!
Some classified ad sites even block the sales of pets. We have hundreds of ads for animals, its one of our largest categories. We are New England's most popular source for puppies, kittens, fish, birds, horses and all kinds of miscellaneous pets.
The best thing about posting an ad on thewantad.com is where else your ad will be seen. Unlike other sites that only have a web presence, we have a print publication! We print all of our ads into The WANT ADvertiser and/or WANT AD - Powered, so your ad is seen by thousands of web users AND thousands of print readers, every week. Our print publications are sold at over 3,500 retail locations throughout New England.
Another way thewantad.com is different is that we are a local company. We aren't some start-up company in Silicon Valley in California, we don't outsource labor all over the world, we are right here in Hudson, MA. Feel free to stop by during business hours and we will take your ad in person. You can even bring your item and we will take a photo of it for no extra charge, hows that for service?

When i was younger I bought the want ad every week and bought a lot of stuff. especially old cars and parts. But nowadays why would anyone spend hours reading a print magazine when the Internet is so easy. You can find anything on the Internet in no time at all and usually find the best possible deals. I guess it is like wanting an old Model A car or a new 2008 car. Which makes more sense, and old box to buy and read or todays electronic technology. Do yourselves a favor and build a web presence that people will want to visit. thewantad.com is not that product!!! fix it before it is to late
Interesting points. I agree, sometimes all I want is to find the thing I'm looking for and move on. For those times, using the website is absolutely easier. There's other times where I just want to see what's out there and browse without any particular item - and that's why we print a book as well.
I'm curious though - clearly, there's something you want thewantad.com to do that it doesn't. Would you mind sharing what you think we could be doing better? thewantad.com gets 60,000 unique visitors and over a million page views a month, and that number has been increasing, but if you have ideas on what we might have missed, please let me know - either here or by email at nkelly@thewantad.com.

Well, it's a done deal now.
The WantAd is GONE!
ALL the contents of the building were sold at auction yesterday.
Looks like a New Pub >>
BIG ADs is trying to fill the void.
Also Uncle Henry's from Maine is starting to distribute in Ma. and purchased the online TheWantAd site.
The Want Ad has been revived as a subsidiary publication of Uncle Henry’s. We will begin publishing this new book on a weekly basis beginning the week of March 5th. All ads submitted by the end of Thursday will be included in the following Thursday’s book. Ads can also be placed into the book (either book) online at www.unclehenrys.com
The Want Ad was a great magazine! If Uncle Henry bought it, do they plan to continue printing The Want Ad as it was before or are they planning to fuse both magazines into one? Where will it be distributed/sold? Is it going to be color? Just can't wait to buy it!!!!
Uncle Henry's already has a very successful book published for Northern New England. The purchase of the WANT ADvertiser is creating a second publication. This one will be titled: "Uncle Henry's Mass Edition, Formerly The WANT ADvertiser". It will be weekly and distributed throughout the state of Mass and some spots in bordering states as well. It will use the free ad form that has made Uncle Henry's so successful. In addition, photo ads will be able to be placed through www.unclehenrys.com
